Seven Old Saybrook Seniors Receive Job Offers During Electric Boat Interview Day
Old Saybrook, Conn., February 28, 2024 – On Thursday, February 15, seven Old Saybrook High School Seniors, Izak Egbert, Landon Frazier, Joseph Kelly, Tynan MacCarthy, Zach Miller, Corey Peterson, and Ismael Peterson, received on-the-spot job offers from Electric Boat during an Interview Day that took place at Westbrook High School through the Boat for Next Gen program.
The Boat for Next Gen Program is a mutually beneficial partnership between Electric Boat and the Old Saybrook College and Career Readiness Program designed to provide students with opportunities to explore careers in their areas of interest. While participating in this program, students have the opportunity to explore six of the trades that Electric Boat will be hiring for in the future through hands-on activities with EB trainers and tradesmen in the areas of electrical, sheet metal, pipefitting, machining, ship fitting, and welding.
“We are so fortunate in this district to have administration and a Board of Education that value and support opportunities for all students,” said Cariña Using, the College and Career Readiness Coordinator at Old Saybrook High School. “Our students that are interested in the trades are incredibly talented and passionate, and with the commitment of companies such as Electric Boat, we are able to provide these and all of our students with the experiences and knowledge that not only assist in career path decision-making, but that also build their confidence in the future that awaits them.”
Old Saybrook High School Principal Joseph Anastasio agreed, stating, “We are very proud of the effort and achievement of our students and feel fortunate to offer this experience to them so they can pursue this opportunity.”
In addition to receiving offers of employment, students who decide to accept the offer from Electric Boat will have access to tuition reimbursement if they choose to continue their education, a comprehensive benefits package, and a 401K account.
The students themselves are thrilled with the opportunity to secure gainful employment with a reputable company in the areas that they find most engaging. “Getting this job offer showed me that no matter what your interests are, you can be successful and have a great career at a great company,” reflected Old Saybrook High School Senior Corey Peterson. “I don’t mind hard work, especially when it is something I really like. This opportunity is a perfect way for me to be successful in something I am good at, and the benefits are awesome.”
For the students who choose to accept the offer of employment, they will notify Electric Boat of their intent and will be celebrated at a signing day in May or June where their administrators, parents, and other significant supporters will be invited to share in their excitement.
