Old Saybrook Boys Lacrosse helps out the Shoreline Soup Kitchen. The message below is from the kitchen's manager. We are so proud of our teams. Go Rams! "The Old Saybrook Boys Lacrosse Team came by to help and “cleared out the box truck in 10 minutes flat.” Our Old Saybrook Pantry Manager added, “Not much warms my heart like the voice of a teenager asking for the heaviest box you’ve got, and we had about 2 dozen of them, and they were fresh off of winning a game and they were incredibly polite humans. If they are the future, we’re going to be just fine.”

Last week, 6th graders spent 3 days learning about and creating blackout poetry in honor of National Poetry Month. On Day 1, students analyzed examples of poems. On Day 2, with the help of Old Saybrook's Poet Laureate, Dr. Sandy Yannone, students created blackout poems. On Day 3, we welcomed family members to OSMS to create blackout poems with our students. Many OSMS faculty and staff also participated, including Dr. Bauchman and Mr. Drezek. It was a huge success! Poems will soon be displayed at Acton Library and some will be entered into Acton's Annual Poetry Contest.

Alexa’s incredible submission featured a video of her intubating a baby manikin while sharing her inspiring dream of becoming a neonatologist. Her passion, focus, and ambition at such a young age are nothing short of amazing. GO RAMS!

This May, our very own Laura Barbato (7th-grade science teacher from Old Saybrook Middle School) will lead a research project funded by a grant from the Rockfall Foundation. The project aims to explore the impact of human activity on various sites within Hammonasset State Park in conjunction with the Connecticut Audubon Society. The grant will enable Ms. Barbato and her students to conduct field research, focusing on environmental changes and disturbances caused by human interactions with the park's ecosystems. Students will engage in hands-on learning, analyzing factors such as pollution, foot traffic, and habitat disruption, all while developing their understanding of ecology and conservation. The project not only enriches the students' scientific knowledge but also fosters a sense of stewardship of natural resources, encouraging them to become active participants in protecting the environment. Good luck to Ms. Barbato and her students as they conduct this important work.
